Incipio Technologies ORION Slim Kindle Sleeve (Fits 6″ Display, Latest Generation Kindle) Black Review
2009-10-22
By Marianne Mantell (Monterey, CA)
The jacket is too tight for the Kindle and totally impractical if you intend to use your Kindle with any frequency. I can’t even get my Kindle inside it, and I doubt that if I did, I’d be able to get it out again.

After using this cover for a week with my brand new Kindle 2, the case left smudges on the pristeen white front of the device. The residue will not come off either. I’ve tried windex, alcohol, mineral spirits…nothing works.

Took exactly 3 weeks to arrive.
Doesn’t fit at all. Even if you try to shove it and make it stretch!!
Isn’t anything like the picture, instead of a leather/vinyl looking sleeve, I was sent a soft neoprene like envelope with velcro closures and a very soft fuzzy interior.
See my customer images.
Don’t even think about buying it!!!

I also got a cloth case with a flap and it is too small for the Kindle 2. I don’t know what they were thinking when they sent this but it will be going back at their shipping expense. Very disappointed. Nothing like the picture!

I waited for 3 weeks for this item. It appears in the photo to be leather or at least “faux leather”. What I got was cloth with a flap. To make it worse the Kindle 2 does not even fit inside of the sleeve. The Kindle is a good 1 inch larger than the case.
Don’t waste your money or time.
This is the second case I have ordered for my new Kindle. The first one was about 3-5 inches to long and 3-4 inches too wide. I have had it for 3 weeks now and still haven’t been able to leave the house with it, for lack of a case. What is the deal with the case makers?
FYI: I have never written a review of a product before, but this case I just had too warn people.

Small Animal Internal Medicine: Case Management Test Booklet (National Veterinary Medical Series) Review
2000-06-25
By C. Adams (Visalia, CA USA)
This book is useful as a self test, but the way the book is designed makes it difficult and tedious to follow. One spends far to much time leafing through the book to look up corresponding symptoms and lab results for each case. A change of format would make this book much easier to use and less frustrating.

This handbook is fantastic. It’s the go-to for EVERYTHING dog–not just health issues (bee stings, dog stings, seizures–all things my puppies had…) but also grooming, feeding, housebreaking, etc… I really like how it lays out clearly when to go to the vet immediately, when to just call the vet, and when to just take care of the issue at home. I’m buying a copy for my sister who just got a dog. It’s my #1 doggie book–and I have almost a whole shelf of them.

I love this book! It’s easy to understand and offers ALOT of information. I found out about it through “Animal Wellness Magazine” and decided to look it up on Amazon… luckily they sell it!! The book is priced very reasonable for all the information it packs. I collect dog books and this is one that should be added to ANY dog owners collection. If you don’t have a single dog book or one on dog health – then you should buy this one! The index makes it easy to find a topic quickly.
Yappy Reading!

This is a must have for any dog owner. It covers it all. From puppyhood to senior dogs (and resources for when your dog is gone), it tackles all the tough questions. It’s like the “What to Expect When You Are Expecting” series but for dogs or like WebMD for dogs.
Every time my dogs sneezes too many times, I pick up the book. If he’s panting too much, I pick up the book. It calms my fears and lets me know when I need to call the vet for things. We recently had to put our dog to sleep and it described the process step-by-step so we knew what to expect once we got to the vet office.
I really can’t say enough about this book other than I wish I had found it a few years earlier.

This is one of the best and aptly name guidebooks offering credible advise on health, nutrition, common problems and prevention for hounds. Written by a writer-turned-vet, the book did exactly what the author had set out to do: “To save people from making unnecessary trips to the vet, and yet rush them in when their dogs really needed to be there”.
Having three dogs of my own, I could recount ad nauseam first-hand horror encounters with vets who were either too commercial or inexperienced or mediocre or all of the above: there was this one vet who told me something as ridiculous as neutering my dog would give him testicular cancer (huh?!); another who misdiagnosed the onset of ringworm as a mere scratch on its paw (later developed into full-blown skin infection afflicting me in the process); another who wanted to jump into operating on my dog following a mere bout of vomiting (the book discussed at length many useful home remedies before resolving to show up at the vet’s clinic!); and yet another who urged me to wait it out until my puppy had been through one or two heat cycles before getting her spayed for no apparent reason (the book brought to my attention this delay would increase the incidence of breast tumor by 28%, no different from a dog who was never spayed in her entire life!). More often than not, I have experienced vets who shoved me out of their consulting rooms in a little more than 5 minutes without first hearing out the history/symptoms in full or performed detailed enough physical examination before formalizing on some half-baked diagnosis. Call it a streak of bad luck but I have been through enough vets to know that the best thing you could do to your beloved pets is to equip yourself with as much knowledge as possible in both prevention – whipping up a wholesome diet, social and exercise program – and cure when the inevitable hits home – knowing how to tell the grass from the weed in your pursuit of a vet and the book does precisely that.
I do have reservations over the author’s advocacy over commercial pet food (fellow reviewers may wish to refer to Ann Martin’s “Food Pets Die For: Shocking Facts About Pet Food” and its sequel, “Protect Your Pet: More Shocking Facts” and learn why vets unanimously endorse pet food and Dr. Pitcairn’s Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats for recipes and holistic/alternative medicine). Having said that, this book is still highly recommended for its comprehensibility, readability and generosity of medical information from the viewpoint of an ethical and knowledgeable vet! A must-read!

One of my dogs was diagnosed with Lupus last year. This book has become my number one reference guide for dog health. Great information written by respectable subject matter experts.
Highly recommend.

Information on the subjects I have needed has been hard to find and incomplete. I do NOT recommend this book. I’m still looking for a really good general reference.

Poorly organized. Try looking up something like the common “kennel cough” and you will find snippets of information under “respiratory system”, then refered to infections (viral, then bacterial), but never get a concise, useful idea of the condition. Web site search via Google gives much better discussions.

Great reference book, without getting too technical. I consider it my “canine bible” and “dictionary” rolled into one. Arlene Millman, author of BOOMERANG – A MIRACLE TRILOGY (The tale of a remarkable Boston Terrier).

No, this does not have all of the info of the Merck Veterinary Manual, but most dog lovers and owners can be easily frustrated by the medical terminlogy etc. THIS however, is simplified and essential info for the average person to really learn so much about their dogs health. My Merck, this book and “Symptoms and Solutions” are my dog bible trio!! I can not tell you how many people I’ve been able to help w/ dog health problems, solutions and understanding the disease or condition.Worth your money!!

Owner’s Guide to Dog Health Review
2005-08-16
By Ariston Herwindo (Indonesia)
the first dog health book I bought, because I thought it covers all I need to know… not a bad book, great paper, has many good photos and quite informative even doesn’t cover all… yet, I find it’s too boring and difficult to read for ordinary people (like me), use too much difficult vocabularies, if this book is designed just for vetenarian’s consume then fine, but if for all level of dog owners, some of them might just browse the pics, read a while then leave it on the table… Dr. Lowell Ackerman is definitely a great doctor but also definitely need practice in writing a readable book…

This is a very informative book with great illustrations. Just one thing missing, CANCER. Many of us with dogs, especially with older dogs, need all the information we can get on cancer. I’m still looking for the perfect dog health book.

The Pill Book Guide to Medication for Your Dog and Cat Review
2009-08-29
By Wayne J. Byrnes (Pepperell, MA USA)
This is a must have manual if your pet needs any medications from your veterinarian or if you are considering treating your cat or dog on your own. It informs you of safety, i.e., can you even give is to your pet. Some medications that humans take can be harmful, even fatal to other animals. It also describes potential side effects to be on the watch for and dosing guidelines. It is a “Physician’s Desk Reference,” or PDR, for cats and dogs.
P.S. I am not a veterinarian, but the best way to treat your pet is through his or her advice, not on your own or a friend’s.

Pass on this. Just a soft cover printing of outdated information. Several very popular new medications are not in the book. Waste of your money

I volunteer at an animal shelter, and this book was needed the very day it arrived. It is informative, medications are addressed by both their generic and complete names, and I was able to locate items easily. This is an all-around safe book for anyone who has a cat or dog.

By Terry J. Peavler (Buena Vista CO USA)
The advertising for this book is very misleading. I thought I was getting a book published in January of 2009, but that is just the paperback edition. The original was published over 10 years ago. This might have been a great reference book in 1998, but it doesn’t include any of the medications our pets are on. Shame on someone!!!
2009-04-21
By H. Keller (Waukesha, WI USA)
I have the earlier edition, and was delighted to see the new publication date and ordered a copy through Amazon.
HOWEVER, after it arrived, it appears (from the copyright info) this is a trade paperback edition of the 1998 work – not an updated edition. After suspecting this, I checked the index and failed to find several prescription drugs that I’m currently giving my dogs.
This is a good, if dated, reference. If you don’t have it, get it. If you have the older edition, avoid the new edition.
And I’ll be delighted to be corrected on this.
